A Love Letter to Our Water

What is it?

Join us for an evening to celebrate our water and build a movement to protect it.

We are thrilled to have Sarah Harmer joining us, as well as Tim Gray, Jeff Monague, Becky Big Canoe, and the Caswell Choir Lions, to raise funds that will be put toward local projects to protect Lake Simcoe and water in Simcoe County.

This is a critical time for water in Simcoe County. The ten year review of the Lake Simcoe Protection Plan is underway. There are also provincial reviews underway of legislation dealing with growth, species at risk, among others. We must make sure policies that protect water are strengthened.

We believe that one of the best ways of ensuring water is properly valued, and by this we mean valued in its own right rather than based just on what it provides us, is by listening to and taking guidance from the understandings of water formed and held by indigenous people and communities.

Where are proceeds going?

By purchasing tickets to this event you are contributing directly to three streams targeting water protection in Simcoe County:

- the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition, which is spearheading efforts to strengthen the Lake Simcoe Protection Act;

- SCGC, who have identified initiatives fighting to protect the Alliston Aquifer, as well as youth engagement in water protection more broadly, as targets for their portion;

- and to indigenous led efforts focusing on water.
