Every day we are experiencing the devastating effects of climate change. Extreme weather events are becoming more intense and frequent. 100 year floods are now becoming the norm. Forest fires are forcing people to find new homes. New species are being added to our endangered lists at shocking rates.
This is a critical moment where our planets' health must come first.
Our collective voice can impact the upcoming federal election and ensure our elected government values the environment as much as we do.
SCGC is working to make the environment a top priority this election.
We need your help to make this a success.
Here's what we're working on.
All Candidates Debates - 100 Debates on the Environment
We are organizing all candidates debates, one in Barrie-Innisfil and another in Barrie Springwater Oro-Medonte, so that voters can make an informed decision about where the parties stand on the environment.
These are part of the 100 Debates on the Environment, which is an effort to hold 100 debates focused on the environment simultaneously in 100 ridings across the county.
These events include small honorariums for debate moderators, printing costs for promotional materials, as well as costs associated with advertising the events on social media.
SCGC will produce a number of short video clips with local voters discussing issues that matter to them and what they see from candidates that address these issues.
One Earth One Vote Campaign
One Earth One Vote is a multi-organization campaign, including SCGC, Ontario Nature, and Environmental Defence, among many others, that is aimed at keeping the environment at the forefront of the election campaign.
We will provide a list of questions for voters to ask candidates, as well as an online tool voters can use to send a message to the parties on environmental plans and priorities.
